A word is an audible expression of a thought, and a thought reveals who we are. Words are sound waves picked up by our ears by vibrating the eardrum. There are many sound waves trying to get our attention, such as the opinions of men, fear and unbelief, prejudice and ignorance. Also, there are demonic sounds, angelic sounds, and the voice of the Lord.

““Father, glorify your name!” Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.” The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him.” – John 12 v 28-29 (NIV)
Two groups of people hear the same sound. Yet – some heard a voice – the distinction of words 0 and some heard thunder – an indecipherable rumbling. Yet everyone heard something! Some had ears to hear, some were dull of hearing.
“Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.” The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.” – Luke 1 v 18-19 (NIV)

Zacharias had been listening to other sound waves – opinions of men, fear and unbelief – and to him the frequency of the Word was just thunder.Mary’s response was, “Be it unto me according to Your Word.”
Today, not all have ears to hear. God does not want you to hear an indecipherable rumbling, He wants you to have accurate hearing , and then to join your voice with the Word, to establish it as a reality in your life.
